I'm actually not even sure WHEN or WHY I began the HP series. My only memory is this: My mother bought me the 5th book. She read it first (because she'd read the other 4 and loved them and she was a faster reader than I) Then I read it. We then loaned the books (Because we had all 5) out to my friend Rachel. I do remember that we had all five in hard back and my mother thought it was important that they remained in good condition. Shortly after, my mother passed away. My friend is also no longer with us. I am not a HUGE HP fan. But it is a significant part of my life because it is something I share with two very important people in my life who have both "come to the clearing at the end of the path" It's something I have left of them.

I started to read the Harry Potter series when I was eleven (same age as Harry in the first book ^_^). A friend of my parents was working in a bookstore and she had a reading copy (I don't know if that word's correct ... it's one of those books book-sellers get befor the books come into the store) of the Philosopher's Stone and gave it to me. I really loved it and I made my family read the book and now we're all fans XD It was just a story I've never read before and I was fascinated by the whole wizarding world. I still love it

I didn't start reading the HP books until just before the first movie came out. For some time I had heard about Harry Potter, but I always just assumed that the books were for children. Then when I saw the trailer for the first movie it caught my eye and I became interested. I decided to read the book before seeing the movie. I soon as I read SS I went and got CoS and read it too. I had fallen in love with the series. I realized that they weren't just for children. Adults could appreciate them too. From that point on I was getting the new books at midnight on their release dates and was reading them in the course of just a few days.

My English teacher was a great fan of JKR. She went to University with her [although wasn't her close friend and graduated a few years above her] so she was pretty obsessive about her books.
I remember getting a class trip to the book store for the first day it was out and we all bought copies. It started from there ;D From experience [and not to sound awfully rude or cocky] I tend to be one of the very few fans that got this book at the VERY beginning. I am a very old [not age wise] fan! |

I knew the books were very popular with kids, but I also saw some adults reading it on the subway (underground train) into work. After I'd heard so much about it, I thought I'd best see what all the fuss was about. I didn't have a TV at the time, and had read pretty much every Buffy novel in the Toronto Public Library network! I decided HP would be the next thing to borrow. I read book one and got so hooked I went straight on to 2, 3 and 4. Then I was upset because I had to wait for book 5 to come out. By book 6 I was such a huge fan that I got dressed up and went to a street party for the midnight launch.

I started reading HP by chance, aged...about 10/11. My dad decided me and my brother didn't read enough so bought a random selection of books, amongst them was PS and CoS. He would read us a chapter a night, so it took us forever to get through each book, but my brother and I loved the series early on. Only because he's rubbish with books he tended to tune out a lot and left it to me to figure out and enjoy. To this date he's only "read" the first two books whereas I regularly re-read the entire series!

It was the Christmas after the Chamber of Secrets came out that I became hooked on the series! My aunt had heard of the series and thought that it might appeal to my brothers and I. My aunt lives in England and we had driven down there for Christmas (a ten hour drive). One of my brother's Christmas gifts from my aunt was the Philosopher's Stone on casette! We listened to the whole book in the car on the way home, and as far as being a fan is concerned, I haven't looked back since. We went out very soon after that and bought the Chamber of Secrets, and from then until the Deathly Hallows came out, I was always looking forward to the next book, and then the next one and the next one. When we were younger my mum would read them to us together, reading about a chapter or two every night. I was always so impatient for her to finish it. When the last three books were released I always bought our copy myself so that I could read it first. My brothers didn't mind, because although they like the series, they aren't as hooked as I am.
When Deathly Hallows was released I queued at midnight for it. My friend and I were at the front of the queue and I got the very first copy in our town! I went straight home and read for thirteen hours. I hardly stopped at all! I was phoning and texting my friend every now and then, because she was up to read it as well. We kept saying "How far have you got?" and "I can't believe .... is dead!". My friend gave up and went to sleep at about 5 in the morning, but I was up until 1 in the afternoon. I've never been so tired in my life, but it was worth it! - Spirit Month: It's not personal, it's points! _________________________________________________________________________

I remember when I first heard of these books, it was long before it got insanely popular (when the books were made into movies is when it got very popular it seems.) I was either in the 5th grade (towards the end of 1999) and my teacher was reading it to us during our free time. I remember how excited I got when the books were being read.. they were so interesting and I ended up getting the books, and reading them. Though not all of them were out yet. . I just remember how much I enjoyed them.
I was a fan before the craze. xD. - -- Go Go Hufflepuff! _________________________________________________________________________

I saw the first movie in 2001 or 2002, and I must have started reading them shortly after. Or at least - my mother read them to me. Ahem.

I was 20 when I was first introduced to Harry Potter, but didn't read them until I was 21. I was introduced to HP because my husband (then boyfriend) DRAGGED me to the movie. He read it for Children's Lit in college, and wanted to see it. Sooo, I went with him, expected it to be terrible and it sucked me right in. I received CoS and SS for Christmas that year, and didn't read them until the summer, and zipped straight through from CoS to GoF, then went back and read SS. And I think I read them all again one more time between finishing GoF and the release of the OotP.

I believe I was about 10 or 11. The very first book just came out, and my mom had heard about it from other people. So she picked up the first book, and decided 'we would read it together.' I believe she read me chapter 2 and then stopped. I however was HOOKED. I finished the first book in no time. I started being one of those crazy people in line at midnight to buy them. The movies, I went to see them when they came out, and then I bought them as soon as they came out. I've rewatched the movies numerous times, and I have reread the books numerous times.

I started reading the HP series when I was in 3rd grade which was 5 years ago... I was clueless with books, I never actually liked reading I was more into the tennis I was playing. So I read the first book reluctantly because my friend forced me too and I never touched the second book, until a couple of months ago, I realized that the last few movies were going to be coming up and everyone kept saying that it was loads better than Twilight. (How can I disagree?)
So I read the whole series in three weeks, now that I am ALOT more into books and the whole wizard thing is just alluring. - Great Hall! Its been a YEAR! (: |
